MISSION CIRCLE is a ministry of dedicated parishioners active in our Parish since 1979. We are one of a network of Mission Circles under the auspices of the Mission Office of the Propagation of the Faith in than Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Across the globe, our Church continues to reach out to the poorest of the poor... those who struggle daily with hunger, disease, violence and despair, and support of schools and children. This vital work continues every day through the devotion of religious and lay workers, courageous Missionaries and through the support of all dedicated Catholics.
The purpose of Mission Circle is threefold:
- Personal spiritual development
- Giving direct spiritual and material support to Missionaries
- Creating, here at home, an interest in all things missionary
At present, we have 12 active members. We meet bi-monthly; January, March, May September and November, on the third Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. We are appealing for younger members to keep Mission Circle going when we have passed on. The duties are not demanding. Our principal activity is fund raising and we have been blessed in our ability to raise around $13,000 last year, which includes private donations, and from several Ministries in our Parish. We help support eight Missionaries, which have at some time been known to at least one of our Members. Sister Elizabeth Murphy, our adoptee Missionary, in Zimbabwe; Father Abebe in Ethiopia; Missionary Sisters of the Eucharist in Guatemala; Father Xavier of Catholic Mission Mallukanta, India; Father Ruiz of Macau, China; Medical Missionaries of Mary in Malawi; Father Winikoff in the Philippines and Sister Mary Prabha Jesudhason, Sister of Notre Dame, Sophia Opportunity School, Bangalore, India.
